How to Use a UHF Radio

An ultra high frequency or UHF radio receives signals within the frequency range of 300 MHz and 3 GHz. Originally used mainly for transmitting television signals and later for CB radios, today the UHF frequency range is more commonly used for 2 way radios, cordless telephones and cell phones, with the higher frequencies (above 2,400 MHz) reserved for phones using Bluetooth technology.
1 Switch “On,” and set all radios to the same channel by entering the channel number on the keypad. Set all radios to the same security code if the radios are equipped with this feature, again by entering the code on the keypad.
2 Talk to another individual as you would in a normal conversation, using the microphone on the front of a UHF radio if it is equipped with VOX (voice-operated transmission) technology. Otherwise, use the push-to-transmit button on the side of the radio. This button must be pressed while speaking so the radio can transmit your words to the other individual.
3 Release the transmit button to hear the individual you are speaking with. Install the earphones and microphone equipped with most UHF radios to increase the privacy of your communications.
