Can 2 Way Radios Damage a Computer?

Misconceptions
Radio waves are passing through electronic components, as well as people, all the time. There is no evidence that they are damaging to either. 2 way radios use radio waves to allow for communication between two parties. Cell phones are similar in operation and have no damaging effect on electronics, either.
Interference
The lack of physical damage caused by two-way radios does not mean that there are no effects at all. Waves from the two-way can cause interference in speakers and monitors. When interference occurs, the speaker may emit a crackling sound. Monitors may have lines through the picture temporarily. Neither of these effects are permanent or cause any physical damage to the devices.
Prevention
Interference is not harmful, but it can be annoying. Keep two-way radios and cell phones a safe distance away to prevent interference. Most two-way radios will only cause interference when they are transmitting or receiving. When in use, move away from electronic devices. Cell phones may cause interference intermittently without being in use because they frequently check in with the service to measure the signal and receive updates. This is especially common in smartphones that may check email from time to time without any prompting from the user. Simply keep it away from susceptible devices to avoid interference.
