Bus drivers and the never ending need for 2 way radios

The first day of school each year is often marked with some confusion and disorganization. One bus driver in the South Brunswick school district in New Jersey has learned, however, that there is never a good excuse for lost children.
Two 7-year old twin boys were on the driver’s bus for two hours after missing their stop. The driver told the mother that her children were not on board at their original stop. She did not find out the children were on her bus until the driver physically looked two hours later, when the mother called the cops and after the driver finally answered her 2 way radio. The driver has not been criminally charged but has been suspended.
A thirty minute time period lapsed when the bus driver would not answer her 2 way radio. The need for continuous, reliable communication is essential when transferring young students from school to their neighborhoods. 2-way-radios ascertain this contact, unless of course, the driver refuses to respond.
