How to Hook Up a Radio in a Caterpillar Dozer

A Caterpillar bulldozer is a large heavy construction vehicle used to move earth. The Caterpillar dozer does not come with a radio but is pre-wired for one. Caterpillar did this intentionally so that owners could choose to wire a 2 way radio or AM/FM radio in the vehicle. Since the dozer is pre-wired, installation is pretty simple. A mounting harness will make the job much easier and result in a clean install with no hard wiring.
1 Locate the port in the dozer’s cab for the radio. The opening should be two inches by seven inches.
2 Pull out the three-point connector from the back of the radio port.
3 Connect a wire harness to the three-point connector. The wire harness clips to the three-point connector on one side and plugs into the radio on the other. The harness manages that connection, so no hard wiring is necessary. Such a harness is available at most mobile electronic stores.
4 Plug the other end of the wire harness into the radio.
5 Insert the radio into the radio port on the dozer and push it in until it is flush with the rest of the console.
6 Screw the radio into the dozer. The exact method for doing this will vary by radio model and dozer model. The radio will either be screwed in from below or from the front using a screwdriver. The radio does not need to be screwed in for it to work.
