Wal-mart shooting marks successful use of Motorola 2 way radios

A suicidal man began yelling and waving butcher knives in the middle of a Greenville County Wal-mart on Friday, purporting that it was the last day of his life. Reports say that he spoke about losing veteran’s benefits and about his wife wronging him. Walmart associates promptly contacted law enforcement and isolated areas of the store where the suspect carried on.
Deputies arrived as the man was leaving. They tazed him after he refused to cooperate. He proceeded to throw a knife at a deputy, hitting him in the leg. The deputies shot him in the leg, arm and abdomen. Thankfully, both the deputy and the man were not fatally injured.
The good news: although the store was full at the time, no employees, customers or property suffered injury or damage throughout the violent display. One deputy suffered a laceration that required 30 or more stitches. Wal-mart’s employees used 2 way radios to communicate quickly internally and with authorities. The police and the fire department arrived in less than ten minutes, and the violent event was minimized and brought to a halt.
