Budget cuts and upcoming changes in FCC mandates for 2 way radio frequencies are requiring schools to be resourceful in order to fund their need for 2 way radios. The students at Stockton Elementary School in Jacksonville recently raised more than $20,000 from a fundraising project.
Stockton Elementary School Principal Lacy Healy and Assistant Principal Jennifer Collins recently motivated their students to action by making a fundraising deal. If their students raised $20,000 in cookie dough sales, Healy and Collins agreed to camp on the school’s roof for 24 hours. The students surpassed the goal by raising $21,500; in return, the administrators followed through by pitching a tent on the roof for a day. Half of the funds raised will be used directly for school improvements.
Many schools cutting programs, staff and supplies are easing the tension of decreasing resources with the efficiency of 2 way radios. With less staff at your school, 2 way radios allow you to communicate easily and to manage your students without enduring added stress.
Take the initiative to suggest introducing a new fundraising project to the teachers and parents at your school with specified needs and goals to obtain. If your school does not currently use 2 way radios, include them in the budget as an enhancement to your communication and security team. Add an inexpensive, compelling incentive for the kids to enjoy and set a quick cut-off date to spur them to action.
Another great result of fundraising is the effect it has on students. They will have the opportunity to understand responsibility, feel a sense of community and a sense of accomplishment as they reap the rewards and benefits of their hard work. They may also, like the students at Stockton Elementary School, surpass the goal and provide you with extra funds.
