1 Check the battery indicator on your handset to rule out drained batteries. Have the other parties on your channel check their batteries as well. Recharge the battery packs in any handsets that are on low power. Replace batteries packs that are over a year old.
2 Ask the transmitting party to enable any transmission boost function that his radio may include. Many 2 way radios feature a boost for transmission power among their menu options. Enabling the transmission power boost on the transmitting radio produces a stronger signal with less static.
3 Change your position to receive your radio transmission without the interference of buildings or clusters of trees. If you can’t completely avoid trees and other obstructions, move closer to the transmission source, or move to a higher elevation where the foliage is thinner.
4 Change channels. Another frequency may suffer less from localized radio interference than your current band.
